Adam Hodgkin

This is the only chance for an ethical principle to be verified as well as validated.--Hanna Arendt (1968) "Truth in Politics," (p. 243 in Between Past and Present).
You do not understand this sentence?
I do not see the difficulty, is she not making the point that at certain crucial moments moral and political truth becomes necessarily performative, take your pick from Socrates, Antonio Gramsci, Maximilian Kolbe, Mandela etc, and the truth is revealed through the committed action of the actor. The suicide bomber or crazy truck driver does not reveal any such principle because we cannot see the moral principle that his action exemplifies. Only from a distorted jihadist standpoint does a principle emerge, and we know such distortions are possible.
